Pennsylvania Lottery Games

By law, the Pennsylvania Lottery is operated by the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania. At least 40 per cent of Lottery proceeds are required to
be paid as prizes with another 27 percent towards funding programs.

As illustrated below, the Pennsylvania Lottery currently pays 62 cents
of every dollar to prizes, 29 cents to benefit programs, 7 cents to
retailer and vendor commissions and 2 cents for operating expenses.

The Pennsylvania Lottery is the only US lottery that targets all of its
proceeds to programs that benefit older residents. Some of these
programs include hot meals, prescription assistance, transportation,
property tax/rent rebates and long-term living services.

Instant Games

Instant games are lottery tickets where you could win a cash prize
right away! Instant games vary in price and prize level but each one
gives you a chance for an instant win. Read the rules on the ticket and
then use a coin to scratch off the surface and see if you’ve won.

To check your tickets, simply locate the portion of the ticket labeled
“SCRATCH TO CASH” and scratch to reveal a barcode. Then scan the
barcode at the ticket checker available at your local PA Lottery retailer.

If your ticket is a winner, sign the ticket immediately.

It’s that easy... Just scratch, scan and sign your instant tickets. The
retailer may pay valid lottery prizes up to and including $2,500.

Instant-only retailers are limited to $600 payout.

Winners of more than $600 must file a PA Lottery claim form available
at any retailer or Pennsylvania Lottery Office.

PA Lottery Games Mid-Day Drawings

At approximately 1:10 p.m. daily, the PA Lottery games mid-day
drawing process begins. A Random Number Generator (RNG),
consisting of secure computerized systems, selects at random the
numbers for the mid-day drawings for The Daily Number, Big 4,
Quinto and Treasure Hunt.

The selected number combinations then are placed in animation –
computerized renderings produced by an Animated Digital Draw
System – so that you can see them on the PA Lottery website.

PA Lottery Games Evening Drawings

The Daily Number, Big 4, Quinto and Cash 5 evening drawings happen
every day during the PA Lottery games nightly show at 6:59 p.m.

Match 6 Lotto drawing days are Monday and Thursday during the
PA Lottery games drawing show at 6:59 p.m.

Mega Millions drawing days are Tuesday and Friday, and the cut-off time
for purchase of a Mega Millions ticket is 9:59 p.m. on those days.

Powerball drawing days are Wednesday and Saturday, and the cut-off
time for purchase of tickets is 9:59 p.m. on those days.

How To Claim Prizes

After winning the lottery the first step is completing the back of your
ticket, including your name, address, phone number and signature.

Remember, each lottery ticket is a bearer document, meaning it is
legally owned by whomever possesses it, at least until it is signed.

Lottery winners of jackpot prizes, annuity prizes and other prizes of
$100,000 or more should check out the Pennsylvania Lottery’s
Winners’ Handbook for helpful hints about claiming their prizes.
